A Modern Victorian Living Space

Comfortable  ·  Warm  ·   Inviting

2013 ASID Showcase Home

The Challenge:

This historic Queen Anne-style Victorian home had all the makings of an enchanting B&B, but the owners also needed a private living space in which to raise their active young family.  Our challenge was to transform a room that suffered from years of neglect into a warm, inviting private living room where the entire family could feel free to relax  and entertain family and friends.

The Solution:

We rose to the challenge, balancing comfort and formality to create a sense of warm sophistication with a crisp, clean look. All new furnishing were selected to honor the history and style of the house, while meeting the needs of the family that makes this house their home.

We gutted the room and rebuilt it with:

  • A new fireplace with heavily-detailed custom mantle, Cambria surround and Venetian plaster with a large, stylized copper medallion that honors the history of the home and brings warmth and coziness to the room
  • New walls with wainscoting; new ceiling
  • New mahogany stained maple flooring
  • New windows and millwork
  • Inviting, calming colors: caramel brown, light blue, cream and tan
  • Coordinated textures and patterns on comfortable, new contemporary furnishings
  • Minimal accessories enhance the relaxing comfort

The Results: An Inviting Family Gathering Place

This room combines the form and function necessary to accommodate an entire family – from toddlers to adults. There is plenty of grown-up sophistication, youthful flexibility and cozy contentment for everyone. Comfortable, warm, inviting – this is a room any family could love.
